[00:00:01] Show announcer: Welcome to the Picture of Wealth, a podcast all about living more of your life now yet being responsible for your future. Lifestyle experimenter, wealth scientist, and financial coach, Dustin Service, shares life hacks, wealth tips, and interviews successful entrepreneurs on how they're thriving in happiness, purpose, and prosperity.

[00:00:24] Dustin Serviss: This is episode number one of the picture of wealth. I am your host, Dustin Service. For those of you who don't know me or have context of who I am, I'm the owner of Service Wealth Management, which we could talk about that later. But I'm obsessed with lifestyle and getting the most out of life now. For too long, retirement has been pitched as the the happiness zone. Get the best grades, work hard, climb the corporate ladder. This will make your income go up, and then you can build a bigger business, sell it for more than the average person, or get a bigger salary and have more savings, and boom, retire, and then you can be happy.

[00:00:58] Dustin Serviss: Sorry, but it's a lie. Denzel Washington has a great line from a university commencement speech. Imagine you're on your deathbed and standing around your bed are the ghosts representing your unfulfilled potential. The ghosts of the ideas you never acted on. The ghosts of the talents you never used. And they are standing around your bed angry, disappointed, and upset. They say we came to you because you could have brought us to life, and now we have to go to the grave together. So I ask you today, how many ghosts are going to be around your bed when your time comes? I just think this quote is, is great and sums up, you know,

[00:01:35] Dustin Serviss: a lot of, you know, the lives we've led of unfulfilled potential. So this podcast is going to to unlock that and give you the ability to let some of those ghosts out now and live your life so this isn't the situation you're faced with. I'm a two time top forty under forty winner. I steward nearly two hundred million in net worth for clients, and behind my name is a laundry list of well respected industry credentials. But guess what? That's not really who I am. I'm a father, a husband, a community supporter, and I love when I've hoarded a specific bolt for years and one day need it and find it.

[00:02:09] Dustin Serviss: I like good hand tools and an ice cold beer preferably enjoyed together if possible. I love teaching my sons about simple business and simple machines around our acreage. I've jumped out of airplanes. I've taken air combat fighter plane training. I've raced supercars and shot fifteen thousand dollar rifles. Every time I've considered doing one of these experiences in the past, I've always thought, I'm not sure I can afford this. But the usual outcome is a thought that says, I'm not sure I can afford to miss this once in a lifetime opportunity. Thank you, mom. Thank you, dad, for instilling the portents of a once in a lifetime opportunity.

[00:02:45] Dustin Serviss: Random Tuesday off to hang out with my children and cut firewood. Bring it on. Take a leap of faith and move cities to acquire a dream real estate property? Sign me up. Go all in on a penny stock and lose all my money? Been there. Think for a second the top five richest people that are in your friend group. I will give you a moment. Now think the ultimate think of the ultimate picture of wealth. Do those people still come to mind? Is wealth money? Is wealth time? Is it being generous? Is it being successful at your career or the business you run? Or is it just being able to afford what you want when you want?

[00:03:22] Dustin Serviss: This podcast will help you paint your personal ultimate picture of wealth and give you something visual, personalized to your own life to anchor to and work towards. Earl Shoaff advised Jim Rohn at the age of twenty five this simple, you know, quote on being a millionaire. Set a goal to become a millionaire for what it makes of you to achieve it. Do it for the skills you have to learn and the person you will have to become. Do it for what you'll end up knowing about the marketplace, what you'll learn about the management of time and working with people. Do it for the ability of discovering how to keep your ego in check,

[00:04:01] Dustin Serviss: for what you'll have to learn about being benevolent, being kind as well as being strong, what you will have to learn about society and business and government and taxes, and becoming an accomplished person to reach the status of millionaire. What this quote omits though is the reference to happiness. Getting to a certain point of happiness could be genetic or, you know, some preprogrammed neutral state that some people have. But for many people, over life, we pick up beliefs, experiences, and we are the some mental state of the closest five people or influences around us.

[00:04:39] Dustin Serviss: If you're an easily influenced person, this can be difficult when making financial decisions. With the addition of social media and the instant, constant, and always changing skews on data taken out of context, how possibly are we supposed to navigate this new world? This podcast will help you cut through that clutter of life and achieve the results, goals, and life experiences that are truly aligned with what you want. Think about the last two or three things you were stressed about. Were they in your control? Were they political situations? Were they situations you could actually figure out the actual facts

[00:05:16] Dustin Serviss: to make an informed judgment or decision? If the answer is no, then consider how taking in that data actually serves your goals for the short term and the long term. This podcast is your recalibration from time to time and to check yourself in when you're needing to make a financial decision, trying to gain control in your net worth, or you just wanna hear a conversation about someone who broke free of running on the treadmill of constantly upping their goals. Accumulating wealth and painting your own picture of wealth is a journey. It is the moment you make a bold financial decision for yourself or with

[00:05:54] Dustin Serviss: yourself or better yet with a partner, and it works out. You don't have to be rich to be happy, and if you are rich, it's no guarantee you will be happy. Life is an ongoing experiment. For some, investing is an experiment. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but it doesn't have to be this way. One thing you'll notice about this podcast is that it's very intentional. From the guest stories to what I share, it starts with intent. It starts with a burning desire to go somewhere, get somewhere, or achieve a certain outcome. I'm not always talking about wealth. I'm talking about I wanna be a better dad. I wanna drink more water.

[00:06:34] Dustin Serviss: I wanna work three days a week. And how are you gonna put the steps in place to make that a reality? If you have an open mind and are willing to see great enhancements in your life, then this podcast is for you. I will play the role as teacher, student. I will probably swear, screw up, maybe even embarrass myself the odd time. This podcast is a journey for me as well. For fifteen years, successful families have come to me for advice, and every year I keep saying, as long as people are keep coming in the door, I will keep trying my best. I will stay honest, and at the end of the day, if you get

[00:07:09] Dustin Serviss: a nugget from this podcast that helps your financial goals, helps your marriage, or helps you be able to make a better decision with more confidence, I will feel satisfied with my efforts. I may, from time to time, introduce you to actual stories of success, defeat, hardship, and we will break down what works, what didn't work. I might even dive into some proprietary background thought process never been shared before. To this end, this podcast is a lot like wealth hacks meets inspiring people living more of their life now, but there's a twist. In the conversations, you will get a sense of something deeper.

[00:07:46] Dustin Serviss: Behind all the fun and happiness, there is a subtle of responsible wealth decisions being made by the interviewees. Without further ado, let's jump into it.
