[00:00:00] Dustin Serviss: Fill me in. What's... What about you? What's been going? You've been hammering the social media. You've been doing the content. What else has been going on?
[00:00:07] Dr. Branden Reid: Yeah. Just... I shot twelve videos yesterday. Like, this is all new to me. Right? I'm not a... It's really hard for me because I'm not about myself at all. I'm not a self centered person at all. I'm not saying if I guess I should qualify. I don't wanna say everybody on social media is about themselves, but it's about sharing yourself. Okay? So I'm a very private person. So for me to do videos of, hey. Come talk to me, and let's talk. Like, it's hard. Yeah. So I'm getting used to it.
[00:00:34] Dustin Serviss: Do you feel like you're going to get criticized, or where do you think that roots in at of this
[00:00:42] Dr. Branden Reid: Already am.
[00:00:44] Dustin Serviss: What do you mean?
[00:00:44] Dr. Branden Reid: Because for my biz... Cancer blood test, there's a lot of people online who are like, this should be free. A private businesses and health care is the devil or whatever.
[00:00:56] Dustin Serviss: That whole narrative. Yeah.
[00:00:57] Dr. Branden Reid: You know, and I don't let that. It's... It was what's great about being forty four years old is I feel like you should be emotionally resolved or, like, resolute. If I was twenty four, I'd be like, oh my god. One person has an issue with me? This is not good.
[00:01:15] Dustin Serviss: Yeah.
[00:01:16] Dr. Branden Reid: But I'm forty four. Yeah.
[00:01:19] Dustin Serviss: I think... Do you think that's heightened because of COVID where everybody is, like, hypervigilant where you... People are very... I saw this video on Instagram, and it's for one that's not really research. And for two, that's just like one little piece in your journey of research. That's not the gospel. How do you decipher between... I get... Not deciphers. I think that's the message is one person's comment can't derail someone's vision to keep going.
[00:01:50] Dr. Branden Reid: Oh, a hundred percent. And, honestly, like, the... I I like dialogue. I think freedom of speech is super important. So if you wanna bash it... And some of the stuff is weird. Like, I saw one person say, you don't determine if you get cancer. God does.
[00:02:04] Dustin Serviss: Oh, yeah. Okay. Yeah.
[00:02:05] Dr. Branden Reid: And I was like, what? I'm like, the last time I checked just in the religious, God has nothing to do with what happens to you as an Indian. I'm like, last time I checked. But you go down these things, you're just like, what? So it's entertaining. I think freedom of speech is great. If you think it's not for you, you can say that. But, yeah, I don't have a problem with it.
[00:02:24] Dustin Serviss: Yeah. Yeah. That's
[00:02:26] Dr. Branden Reid: But I agree. Like, some of this stuff... I agree. All... Like, a lot of the preventative stuff or the proactive stuff should be free. I think the government should be doing all this stuff, but they're just not.
[00:02:38] Dustin Serviss: Yeah. So he... That's a big that's a big candidate. Government should be doing all sorts of stuff supposedly, but I always just chuck them. If I can't quantify everything about something in, like, a forty eight hour period and I can't materially do something about it, move the needle within a forty eight hour period, then I really have to just go forward and not regard. Right? So come... Bring us back to the breakthroughs that that you see in health and the big... You know, this is part two of our sit down with Reed and Service. And I think what we were talking about last time in the podcast
[00:03:21] Dustin Serviss: was wellness as a focus and sort of people taking control of their own health. So where do you wanna go since the last time? What was... What didn't I probe you far enough for that you were excited to talk about or you think is the most material to move the wellness needle for listeners in today's health navigation?
[00:03:46] Dr. Branden Reid: The thing that jumps... I I think, like, biomarkers blood test. Right? Like, I think is probably where I'd probably start. Because a lot of people get blood tests, and they're like, my blood tests were good. My doctor told me, so I'm going to believe all that. And I must have had everything done. Like, it's silly to say, but a lot of people think that. They're like, didn't you test for everything? I'm like, no. I only test for what I check off. But I think there's biomarkers that are super important that everybody should have. And you... In BC, you gotta pay for them, but it's not much money.
[00:04:18] Dr. Branden Reid: One of the big ones is I think you need to know your apple lipoprotein b apple b. Right? Because, basically, all this information is coming out of the states. Right? So that's a marker. If it's really high, it's a really big predictor of risk of blocking your arteries and causing heart attack and stroke. Right?
[00:04:36] Dustin Serviss: Is that something that is... That someone can get on top of if they find that?
[00:04:41] Dr. Branden Reid: Yeah. Absolutely. Like, it's... I always say it's back to basics. Right? The foundation of the pyramid is diet, exercise, sleep, those things, and then you start to level and go up the levels. And the next level up is, like, supplements. You can definitely bring down that apple b exercise and diet, but there's some supplements that can also help bring that down. Right? Red rice yeast, sixteen hundred milligrams a day. Nattokinase, three hundred milligrams a day. So these things have been shown in studies to bring down apple b, almost like statins do, Crestor, Lipitor, that kind
[00:05:14] Dustin Serviss: of stuff.
[00:05:15] Dr. Branden Reid: So So I think there's... So Apple b is a big one. You gotta make sure you're tested for that cholesterol wise. Most people never get tested. You have to know that.
[00:05:24] Dustin Serviss: And once... If someone's at the place where you've got the natural stuff, is the modern research... And, again, not putting your feet to the fire. The modern research from what you've read on the statin stuff not... I feel like I know clients who are... Have been on statin for a long time or a statin, and they seem okay. But is it just like old school pharma and not modified, or the statins been getting more evolved or better for human longevity use or, like, long term chronic use?
[00:06:01] Dr. Branden Reid: I think it's old pharma type stuff. So if you look at it like a stat, what does it do? It stops the production of LDL cholesterol from your liver because all cholesterol is produced in the liver. It does a really good job of that, but the problem is in primary prevention, primary prevention is like me and you. I'm assuming you've never had a heart attack, but I'm assuming. So me and you never had a heart attack. That's the people that go on some statins, right, is that it only prevents a heart attack one out of two hundred and eighty people. Number needed to treat its call.
[00:06:34] Dr. Branden Reid: So you put two hundred and eighty people on a statin, like, meaning you prevent one heart attack. That's not a good number.
[00:06:41] Dustin Serviss: Yeah.
[00:06:42] Dr. Branden Reid: Like, it's a horrible number. You put, like, a good number is ten, fifteen, twenty, thirty even. That's a pretty good number. So we put way too many people on statins, but one in two hundred people get diabetes.
[00:06:57] Dustin Serviss: From the statin or the
[00:06:58] Dr. Branden Reid: From the statin. So you're more likely to cause... And I'm not saying, hey. Just now everybody go off their statin, but I think we've got too many people on statins. And when we should be focusing on what's your diet, how much exercise are you doing, what other supplements can be done. Right?
[00:07:15] Dustin Serviss: Yeah. And the... So then is the statin diabetes situation, the statin increase is something to do with your glucose. Mhmm. Something that is boosting it through the roof is that... So then you're on it.
[00:07:28] Dr. Branden Reid: Roof, but slowly over time. Yeah.
[00:07:30] Dustin Serviss: So your average glucose is starting to go up. You take it
[00:07:34] Dr. Branden Reid: We forget, and this is very important that I think doctors have this, like, up here. Oh my gosh. My doctor told me so. I better... Yeah. We're up here. The reality is I think what I love about now is there's so much... Like, you can become... You could know more about Applebee tomorrow if you just
[00:07:52] Dustin Serviss: Right.
[00:07:52] Dr. Branden Reid: Did all the AS stuff, all these papers. Like, you could know more than me. I love that. So I think people need to be informed about that kind of stuff.
[00:08:02] Dustin Serviss: Yeah. Still think there's always... Even always in this AI sort of thing, whether it's financial lawyer or even a... One of our friends is an ambulance attendant or a paramedic. And he said a lot of the calls... And in our town, it's probably, like, seventy percent of the people are over age. Let's call it sixty. You get the picture. Maybe I'm off by a bit, but it's older generation. And he says a lot of the calls we get are basically humans that just need another human to hold their hand and say they're gonna be okay. Oh. Like, it's Wow. People going, I'm having a heart attack. It's... Nope. You're not. It's okay.
[00:08:40] Dustin Serviss: You got a little bit anxiety, and your heart's fine. Your blood pressure's actually okay. Like, he's saying... Ravi Singh. Yeah. I see that with, like, you saying about the medical. Yeah. You could Google it. But when I wanna phone you to go, how does this affect that? That also could be searched. But being able to bounce ideas off somebody and hear it come out of my mouth, hear your advice, and then it helps just make an into... An intuitive decision opposed to all... Maybe all the AIs would say, hey. You should stop doing that. It's okay. Like, that's... You're really relying on just sort of text on a screen that, you know, is...
[00:09:18] Dustin Serviss: So I I don't know if that changes in finance. Maybe that... Maybe nobody will use a financial adviser. I think a lot of our work still is the same as you, where it's like people wanna visit, people wanna brainstorm, people wanna have that engagement to get to a decision. It's not just as easy as going and buying something at a store. I want this. I go pay and you get it. It's... No. This is long term wealth, health. You don't... And it's unknown. It's on... The tax rates are unknown. Your health's a little bit unknown, but you wanna try and put the pieces together that give you the best chance.
[00:09:53] Dr. Branden Reid: Right? I think anything like what you're doing or what I'm doing. When you have a human interaction, I think that's gonna be around for a long time. I don't know. I would rather take financial advice with a plan you're sitting down with me human to human rather than I just walk up to a machine, press a button, and it spits me out paper. Like, it's the same as a Yeah. Like, there's... I think digging ditches or whatever, that'll probably be done by machines. Right? Because
[00:10:21] Dustin Serviss: Yeah. It'll get
[00:10:22] Dr. Branden Reid: But I think if there's a human interaction, I don't think those jobs are gonna go away too quick.
[00:10:29] Dustin Serviss: Yeah. And the speed of the answer... And, again, maybe over time, we evolved to to... I use AI on my own plan. But when I get that answer back, it's so fast. I haven't really caught up to that answer to then make a decision. And so in my own stuff, I'm always calling my staff or partner at the office. Hey. Here's a scenario on my thing. What do you think? And we're looking at software. We're talking. We're, like, digesting it. So give us a Coles Notes of... You obviously see lots of panels of people, some people super healthy, not so much. Give us a... The super healthy people what you are...
[00:11:10] Dustin Serviss: What you've recently adopted from them in maybe the last, like, year that you've brought onto your own program to help optimize, to help betterment. Is there any things that stand out?
[00:11:23] Dr. Branden Reid: I think the big one, probably a year and a half ago, I had a patient tell me about peptides. I didn't know anything about it. I'm like, about a year and a half, two years ago. And I'm like, what's this peptide? He says, I don't know. I get it from some place in the states. And I'm like, tell me about it. And he said he he had knee surgery. So he had a meniscal repair, and he came in and saw me about six weeks. I'm like, oh, it looks pretty good. He said, I'm gonna tell you. I had peptides. I'm like, what's peptides? So he told me about it. It. And he's... I did this trick where I saw the surgeon between two to four weeks
[00:11:58] Dr. Branden Reid: after, and I was injecting myself with BPC one five seven to TB five hundred. And he's walked in, and he says, what do you think of my knee? And the surgeons, you just kinda look at the paper and the computer is like, you had it, like, three weeks ago? He says this is two months, two and a half months of healing here. And he's, yeah. And he didn't tell him what he did because if you've dealt with surgeons, sometimes they get a little angry with things. So he didn't tell him, but he told me, and I'm like, wow. So his healing was incredible. So then I did an absolute deep dive on these things. So I learned a lot from patients and people that
[00:12:34] Dr. Branden Reid: help me. I don't sit there all day and read everything or know everything. They guide me to, you know, peptides.
[00:12:41] Dustin Serviss: So break peptides down a little further for me because this is something I'm curious about. The this... We're gonna go on a real big tangent because it's... Peptides is a listener, a solution, or a kinda amino acid. And, again, you can fill it in doc, but, you know, it's an amino acid, and it has a name, and you can inject it. You can take it orally. But just think of any compound. So, like, when I was a kid, vitamin c, I think as a kid, it's like my parents told me it came from oranges, or oranges have vitamin c in it. So I was thinking when they're making vitamin c, they're literally, like,
[00:13:20] Dustin Serviss: mashing up oranges, and they're getting the vitamin c out of the orange. Yeah. That's where it comes from. For... Till I was, like, twenty, I didn't realize that's that's not what happens. So to bring it back to peptides, when you get a vial of something and it, you know, it's there and you put some bachochstatic water in it and you mix it up, like, how did that white little ball of stuff end up in that vial? What are the little pieces, and where did those pieces come from?
[00:13:50] Dr. Branden Reid: A lot of these pieces are things we actually have in our body.
[00:13:54] Dustin Serviss: Okay.
[00:13:54] Dr. Branden Reid: So through scientific research and understanding. So you can just use BBC as this example. Body protective compound. Okay. That's what
[00:14:04] Dustin Serviss: I said. Last time.
[00:14:05] Dr. Branden Reid: Yeah. It's in the bowel. So they found with inflammation and healing, they must have just found this compound, and they were able to break it down and say, this is the molecule. You see the carbon and the hydrogen and those structures. This is the molecule. Now we can figure out how we can make that into a powder, into a jar to inject. Right? So that's basically where all the advancements come from is most of this stuff is just already there. It's just not in high levels.
[00:14:37] Dustin Serviss: Yeah. So, like, the scientists would figure out that... So I guess where my question is, could you have two different companies who make BPC one five seven? And it's... So there's company x y z and company a by c, and they have a vial. It says ten milligrams of BPC one five seven. And it's in... They both look like balls of white stuff. Is it the exact same stuff, or is that amount? Yeah. So then where do those things come from, or where do you suspect those parts come from either, like, from organs or from, like, the air or from electrolysis or what?
[00:15:15] Dr. Branden Reid: Yeah. I'd like to think of the classic science high school or even university. Like the benches and the beakers and the flasks and the bunsen burner. And it's like, it's not quite like that. I'm sure it's much more advanced now with machines, but I know there's a little tangent. When I was in university in biochemistry, I had to make aspirin.
[00:15:33] Dustin Serviss: Okay. Figure
[00:15:35] Dr. Branden Reid: out to make aspirin. And you had to take chemicals and boil them to a certain thing and heat them and take the... This off and then cool it down and take this off and go through the process. And if you'd... And then the teacher you were... You graded on the percentage of aspirin that was there. I'm gonna tie this back. Yeah.
[00:15:54] Dustin Serviss: Yeah.
[00:15:55] Dr. Branden Reid: I like it. Had to get over ninety percent as aspirin. No filler or BS in it. Yeah. Yeah. Dealing with all these other chemicals. So I think it was, like, ninety one or time... Ninety two, but the highest was only, like, ninety six. So there's fillers in there from the process you're doing.
[00:16:11] Dustin Serviss: Okay. So that's
[00:16:13] Dr. Branden Reid: what you... It's not a hundred percent anything. You're lucky if you're getting eighty to ninety percent of it. There's just other stuff that was just hydrogen molecules, carbon... That are nothing Right. Yours. But but what you want, and this is why I'm trying when I'm trying to deal with my supplies is... And most of them ghost me. When when I send it through my emails and it says, like, MD and all this stuff at the bottom, they just ghost me because I want mass spectrometry. Like, spectrometry. Anyways, I've got the word wrong there. But, basically, the... An analyzing of the compound. Oh, okay. How much of the compound is on the...
[00:16:55] Dr. Branden Reid: Actually there? And I don't care on... Like, they can't measure every single vial they send out, but there should be some of, okay. We made a big batch. We tested it. So you're getting eighty six percent. The other stuff is nothing. So you gotta ace... Because out there, you can go and buy twenty, fifty different companies selling this throughout Canada, US, and UK. And you just don't know what you're getting. So you're doing bro science, locker club, locker room science.
[00:17:24] Dustin Serviss: Yeah. And you go... Oh, man. So many places to go. Okay. So they're building these compounds. Is there anything else you remember about the aspirin story? I feel like that's a good That's so
[00:17:34] Dr. Branden Reid: nerve wracking. Oh my god. That was scary.
[00:17:36] Dustin Serviss: Tell us... So what do you start with?
[00:17:39] Dr. Branden Reid: Oh god. I don't remember. You start with just the basic chemicals, and then you're boiling them off and some of these, and then you're using the evaporation to get things off. Like, it's crazy. Like, you have... But it's a planned process. You're like, I... We... Like, what's nice is somebody else already made it.
[00:17:57] Dustin Serviss: Yeah.
[00:17:57] Dr. Branden Reid: So you know, these are the... Like a recipe.
[00:18:00] Dustin Serviss: Yeah.
[00:18:00] Dr. Branden Reid: Like, you know, but then there's a step by step process, but it's... Wow. It's really hard, actually. So I was... It was blood pressure, heart rate through the roof on that. But it was really... I really appreciated the science behind it. But that was your mark. Right? If you didn't get it, man, you you didn't do good. So that's the same process that somebody is doing with these.
[00:18:27] Dustin Serviss: So switching gears a bit to... Only because I was doing a lot of research about crypto this week. And, again, it's not a buy or sell recommendation. But what are you seeing in the medical field, or is there anything you see where some sort of blockchain or some sort of crypto crossover would happen with our health and wealth sort of program?
[00:18:54] Dr. Branden Reid: I've seen... I don't... Haven't had a lot. I've had some people try to pay in it, and I'm like, no.
[00:18:59] Dustin Serviss: And then
[00:18:59] Dr. Branden Reid: they have to convert over to cash or whatever to get it. So there are these Bitcoin boys out there, so to speak. But I don't see a lot of it as, like, a transactional thing making its way into what we're doing, but I think it'll be a much more bigger platform across everything. Because isn't in the US, like, okay it, like, for investments and stuff?
[00:19:22] Dustin Serviss: The invest... The US is holding... I can't remember how to describe the number. Two billion dollars in treasury in Bitcoin.
[00:19:28] Dr. Branden Reid: Oh,
[00:19:28] Dustin Serviss: interesting. That would be a big signal too too that that there's some mass there and there's... Again, it's... Who knows what sort of happens? But I do think that is a bit of a signal that it might not be that, but I don't think we're going further away from crypto assets or digital sort of models as it applies to to to the financial system. Where my question was more sci fi is, like, some of these crypto guys are talking about almost a world where... That exists where nobody works. And it's, oh my god. People are gonna be like, where... You're almost rewarded. So if you are taking better care of your health, you are contributing
[00:20:11] Dustin Serviss: more to the the community, the world, whatever, you would get small rewards in crypto. So you actually have this, like, system that actually operates quite different than now for a person who is more healthy and not putting as much drag on the traditional system at the end of their life. You'd actually get a couple of little bit of rewards, and that would come in the form of tokenization or tokens of something that would be of value or could convert to something or could be used to pay for groceries or... So there's this weird idea. Now, again, that's science fiction, but I do think there's a crumb of...
[00:20:53] Dustin Serviss: I have a crumb of curiosity around it because I think it's... It could be quite cool and innovative.
[00:21:00] Dr. Branden Reid: I think the reward system is with humans. It's well founded. If you reward it, we're like the rat in the maze. You have a tree at the end, you'll find it. So I think it... I think that'd be super important, but you know how it is. There's a lot of people who... It's not their problem. It's the world's problem for their problems.
[00:21:21] Dustin Serviss: Yeah.
[00:21:22] Dr. Branden Reid: Right? It's You're
[00:21:24] Dustin Serviss: living it. You're in that world.
[00:21:25] Dr. Branden Reid: So it's really... I get it. Your genetics, all... Some factors play into it, but, really, at the end of the day, you're only responsible for your life, which includes health. Right?
[00:21:37] Dustin Serviss: Yeah. I think, as a nonsmoker, I do find it odd when it's people who have smoked for twenty, thirty years, and then all of a sudden they've got problems and they're in the system getting help. And it's like, why is the government not stepping in more to maybe say, don't smoke? I know they put the stuff on the boxes. Just just make smoking illegal or just get rid... It's just no more smoking. And I know that's... Maybe we're gonna get some trolls hating on you don't understand and all that kind of stuff. But at the same time, it's just a lot of other people aren't. So then can it... Can there be education?
[00:22:10] Dustin Serviss: Or can there be education for lower youth or different programs that maybe it's a reward For not doing that, you get a reward. Oh, I'm not gonna do that. I'm gonna be healthy, and then that doesn't put load on the health system at the back end.
[00:22:25] Dr. Branden Reid: Yeah. And I think we're trying to, as a health care system, to... Like, there... If you look at some of the Nordic European countries, they have an amazing preventative proactive system. Like, you can get... You can go to the gym and spa. Like, all this stuff is, like, paid for.
[00:22:43] Dustin Serviss: Right. So
[00:22:45] Dr. Branden Reid: to promote exercise, subsidize fruits and vegetables over processed sugar. Like, that... Like, I'm a big believer in that. The problem is... I have to watch a generation, basically Yeah. While the political spectrum is whatever, four years. Right? Yeah. So people... You're gonna do something now. So if you wanna fix health care, you gotta help the emergency room because it's packed. You need more family doctors. Right? So it's not, oh, let's get people healthier. So in ten, twenty years, the payback is there. Yeah. Similar. It's investment. Right? This is a long term investment that should be done and the government
[00:23:36] Dr. Branden Reid: to double their budget because now they wanna do both at the same time. That would happen for a decade.
[00:23:42] Dustin Serviss: Right.
[00:23:43] Dr. Branden Reid: Because you're trying to
[00:23:44] Dustin Serviss: do both. Concept. Subsidized gym, subsidized Well, yeah.
[00:23:48] Dr. Branden Reid: You should walk in and walk in a grocery store. It's crazy how you can get, like, a bag of cookies for nothing. And then I look over at bananas and apples, and I'm like, what? How's that double this? Yeah. Yeah. What would you do? So you'd buy the cookies if you're on a budget, which is a lot of people aren't. Right?
[00:24:10] Dustin Serviss: Yeah. I remember looking at Geneva or... I think it was Geneva. How much... I think, like, an... A family of four on average pays. And, again, I might screw this up. So listener, if you're from Geneva, just straighten me out. But it was, like, six thousand dollars a year for health care. It's like you're paying for... You're paying way more than we pay now. So the thing that I took away from is your your discretionary spending would be less. If it's just... No. You just... You have to pay for health care, and you know that right from the time you're eighteen, then that's just a line item that all we...
[00:24:47] Dustin Serviss: It's like food and groceries for us or a mortgage payment. That's... Those are the base. Now all of a sudden, you've got this thing, but your health care is, like, unbelievable. That's... Yeah. I don't... I... Again, back to
[00:25:00] Dr. Branden Reid: It's it's... What's great about it is you don't need to reinvent the wheel for health care. There's Holland, Denmark, Sweden. Like, the... Some of these places have some of the... Germany's got really good health care. You don't need to reinvent the wheel. You just literally copy them. Because I... To be honest, I don't like the American style. I think there's a lot of hands in the cookie jar, and so it's pretty expensive. And to be honest, I think the Canada one could be a lot better too, but you just need to just analyze that. Bring the people. I don't know. I'm just a... I think you're the same way. I'm a hammer, so everything's a nail.
[00:25:35] Dr. Branden Reid: Right? So everything's just easy for me to just sit on the sidelines and armchair general.
[00:25:42] Dustin Serviss: But Yeah. That's... It is true. So I guess it's... This is good work. Listen, we are... I am grateful that you're here sharing today. And if nothing else, promoting wellness and taking an intentional approach with our our health and our well-being because it's not what we're doing exactly today that that is we're paid back in the future. And it's similar to wealth and and investing and all that kind of stuff. Any final sort of closing thoughts that you're most excited about in the wellness space?
[00:26:18] Dr. Branden Reid: I just think in general tying this in, I think you have to do what's best for you. I think you have to start doing the basics. I saw this really good cartoon that showed a massive lineup to get supplements and IVs, And then there was, like, nobody in the lineup for diet and exercise. Like, it was just, like, two booths. And, like, everybody wanted Like a Yeah. Everybody wanted the IV and the supplements, but nobody was at the diet and exercise. So I think, like, we have to start with basics. I think, really, that's the core of it.
[00:26:51] Dustin Serviss: Yeah. Thank you for, our part two. I'm glad we got to finish off some of the peptide stuff. Yes. Where... Again, like, on every episode, where could people find find your info?
[00:27:02] Dr. Branden Reid: Yeah. So I'm on Facebook, Instagram. So it's cancer blood test dot c a. So it's cancer blood test on all those as well as invest dash med dot c a.
[00:27:12] Dustin Serviss: Awesome. Thanks, Brenna.
[00:27:13] Dr. Branden Reid: Okay. Thanks, Dustin.
